Richard Moir Citizenship by Investment is a trend that has already taken off in recent years. As the world economy becomes more globalized and yet more unstable, the demand of the new citizenships from neutral countries is sure to skyrocket. There are a few countries today where you can legally aquire a second passport in a matter of months, provided you pass certain basic qualifications (such as not being a criminal). The Federation of St. Kitts & Nevis, the Commonwealth of Dominica, Antigua & Barbuda, Grenada - all sovereign countries in the eastern Caribbean, offer these so-called Citizenship-by-Investment Programmes. The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis Located in the Leeward Islands of the West Indies, the Federation unites the islands of St. Kitts and Nevis, although both islands maintain certain independent regulation. The English-speaking islands remain under-developed by Caribbean standards, but tourism, the principal economy of the islands, has been growing steadily, bringing with it new hotel and resort developments. Both islands have international airports, and two ferry lines connect them. St Kitts and Nevis has the longest-standing (established in 1984) citizenship-by-investment initiative in the world. A St. Kitts & Nevis passport allows visa-free travel to more than 150+ countries, including all European Union countries, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Caribbean and Commonwealth nations. Citizens can often acquire long-term travel visas to the United States of America. The island federation imposes no residency requirements and no income, wealth or inheritance taxes. Process of getting second citizenship in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis takes from 3 to 6 months.
